Description: A small shrub with smooth branches and from five to ten feet. The leaves are from two to five inches in length, lanceolate, acute, and finely serrated. Flowers dark purple, and the fruit crimson, five celled capsule.

Description: Grows in running water. The branching stems are 1 to 2 feet long and generally extend with leaves above the water. The leaves are somewhat fleshy, elliptic and in pairs of 3 to 7. The flowers are white and small.

Description: Grows up to 100 feet in height and four or five feet in diameter. The trunk is covered with rough, brown bark. The leaves are oval, smooth, and bright green, with serrate margins and veins on the underside. Small white flowers grow in clusters at the ends of branches, blooming from May to June. The fruit is a purple-black drupe which ripens between August and September.

Description: It has a horizontal rootstock and creeping stems which produce slender, erect branches two to six inches high. The leaves are oval and alternate, bright green on the upper surface, paler underneath, and may have bristly margins. White flowers appear from May to September. Both the leaves and flowers grow near the tops of the branches. The fruit is a small, seeded capsule with a fleshy covering.
